The Waves is one in a million

The Waves is one in a million

There is barely a sporting code in Bundaberg that doesn’t include a team attached to The Waves Sports Club. While The Waves is widely recognised for its commitment to local sport, it is only one part of what the not-for-profit organisation does for the Bundaberg...

Shaping citizens of the world

Larine Statham is an award winning journalist with 15-years experience in news media, feature writing, community consultation and business public relations. Larine graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Journalism and started her career in Bundaberg print media.

She worked for Australian Associated Press in Adelaide, Darwin and East Timor before being promoted to Queensland State Political Correspondent. In 2012, Larine took her career in an exciting new direction, as a senior media and policy advisor in both the Queensland and Federal Parliaments.

After the birth of her first son in Bundaberg in 2016, Larine started her own public relations consultancy. Her greatest strengths are strategic communication, persuasive writing and stakeholder engagement. She prides herself on turning complex and dry material into engaging content that’s a pleasure to read. Creative and proactive, Larine’s work is meticulous. She enjoys mentoring young journalists and media professionals.

Nikki Sorbello is an accomplished media and marketing professional with more than 15-years experience working within the Bundaberg Region. With a Bachelor of Communication, Diploma of Marketing and Google Digital Certification, there isn’t much she can’t do.

Nikki started her career in Hervey Bay and Maryborough as a Cadet Reporter and worked her way up the ranks at APN News & Media to become a Page Design Editor and then Chief-of-Staff and Deputy Editor of Bundaberg’s daily newspaper.

In 2010 she extended her media skills as a casual producer for the Mornings program for ABC Wide Bay radio, and in 2015 she left the 24-hour news game to co-ordinate public relations and marketing activities for a major private health organisation.

Alice Thompson has over 15 years’ experience in strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, event planning, media liaison, internal communication, and organisational change.

She’s worked in Canberra, London UK, and now proudly calls Bundaberg home.

Before joining the team at Crush Communications, Alice worked with the Australian Government. She has spent most of her career providing strategic communication advice to law enforcement and criminal intelligence agencies and counts it a great privilege to have worked with those who keep our communities safe, having done so many exciting things she just can’t talk about!

Alice and her family traded chilly Canberra mornings for Bundaberg’s sub-tropical climate at the beginning of 2020. Between raising three young children, studying for her Master of Business Administration and volunteering with school and church, there isn’t too much spare time left — but she loves nothing more than to spend weekends down at the beach and can’t believe she gets to live in such a beautiful part of Australia.
